Grace Mary Voccola Vitale, age 101 of Shelton, the widow of Joseph L. Vitale, died Wednesday, January 02, 2008 in Lord Chamberlain Health Care Center in Stratford. Born in Bridgeport on June 3, 1906 to the late Anthony and Romona (Delia) Voccola she has been a life long area resident. Grace graduated from Central High School in 1924 and the Bridgeport Normal School as a teacher in 1926. She then went on to Southern Connecticut State University and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education and entered Fairfield University and received a Masters Degree in Supervision and Education and continued to earn credits toward a 6TH year certificate. She taught in the Bridgeport School System for 47 years and spent 46 of those years teaching at the Hallen School. Grace was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters: Tom, Tony, Harry, Eddie, Delia Voccola and Helen Voccola Romano and most recently her two youngest brothers John Voccola in September and Raymond Voccola in December. Survivors include a sister Edith Voccola Baldgya and her husband Joseph of Hudson, FLA; two sisters-in-law Margaret Voccola and Katherine Voccola both of Stratford and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 10:45 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 11:30 am in St Lawrence Church in the Huntington section of Shelton with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Calling hours have been omitted.
