George Sostko, age 93, of Bridgeport, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Shelton Lakes Health Center. George, a retired machinist for TEK Bearing was born in Bridgeport to the late Stephen and Julia (Konfederik) Sostko and has been a life long area resident. He fought bravely in the US Army during World War II for 30 months serving with the 225th Field Artillery Battery in the South-West Pacific Theatre of Operations as a combat soldier. He served in 4 battles at Saipan, Tianian, Okinawa and the Philippines earning numerous stars, medals and ribbons and obtained the rank of Corporal. He was a member of VFW Post # 7788- Devon. George was an avid golfer, and was a fan of the New York Yankees, and was also a member of St. John's Church Seniors. Survivors include his sisters, Helen Sutyak of Shelton, and Julia Jacob and her husband George of Stratford, 5 nephews, Raymond Sutyak (Christine), John Jacob, David Jacob (Melissa), Ronald Sutyak (David), Scott Jacob (Jodi), and a niece Kimberly Wokanovicz (Robert), and several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was pre-deceased by his brothers, Stephen, Michael, Frank, and John. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 28th at 11:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 12 Noon in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, Bridgeport for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford.
