George Maronich, age 89, a longtime Bridgeport resident, died peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2013, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Agnes Jugan Maronich. The twelfth of thirteen children, he was born to the late Michael and Julia (Keretzman) Maronich on August 17, 1924 in Winton, PA. He was raised in Tobyhanna, PA and entered the U.S. Navy at age 17. He served from 1942-1952 during both WW II and the Korean Conflict. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, George returned to Pennsylvania and married his childhood sweetheart, Agnes. They moved to Bridgeport where they raised their family. He worked twenty-five years for the United Illuminating Company as an assistant unit operator and retired in 1992. In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by: his son Honorable Michael G. Maronich and his wife Mary of Monroe, and daughter Kathryn Pesavento and her husband Dominick of Shelton, grandchildren Keith, Mark, George, Michael and Ariel, a brother John Maronich, and sister Helen Mignone, and several nieces and nephews. . Funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Nichols for a Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe.
