George T. Macura, age 87, of Stratford, beloved husband of Dorothy Varholak Macura, passed away on Friday March 30, 2012 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Macura was born in Bridgeport son of the late Thomas and Suzanna (Kopcik) Macura and was a life long area resident. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Hornet. George was a retired Lieutenant for the Stratford Fire Department, and was an avid Fly Fisherman and enjoyed hunting; he was also a member of St. John's #8 Masonic Lodge in Stratford. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife, include his devoted daughter Karen Moffatt of Derby, his cherished granddaughter Kerri Moffatt, who was his shining star, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his son Thomas and a brother Rudy. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday April 4th at 9:45 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10:30 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Panachida at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to St. John's Church in George's memory.
