Obituary

George S. George, age 79 of Sunrise, Florida, beloved husband of Carolyn Macchiaverna George, passed away on Friday January 29, 2011 in Florida. Mr. George, the son of the late Samuel and Mariam (Ateek) George was born in Danbury on July 19, 1931. George graduated from Danbury High School Class of 1949 and received a BA and MA in 1955 from Western State College in Colorado where he recruited the first students from the east coast driving them to Colorado himself. He belonged to the Theta Chi national fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Korean War, before becoming a supermarket manager in Connecticut and New York. He was one of the first owners of a Dunkin Donuts in 1963which was located in Stratford, Connecticut. He also owned George's Magic Kitchen in Stratford and Gromart's Deli in Milford, Connecticut, before moving to Florida in 1996. He then pursued his life's love of running and was a member of the Fort Lauderdale Runners and Florida Athletic Club. He was the former president of the Spartans Running Club in Connecticut. Survivors include his beloved wife of forty-seven years Carolyn, his devoted children Deborah George of Florida, Raymond George and Michael George both of Hamden, sisters Georgette George and Lilly Beall, granddaughter Marissa Feola and four nieces. Funeral services will take place on Friday February 4th at 10 am in St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church 5458 Park Avenue Bridgeport for the funeral service. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, Trisagion Prayers of Mercy will be held at 5 p.m.
