Obituary

Genevieve Nerkowski Kernicky Humenick, age 95, of Stratford, the widow of Nicholas B. Kernicky and Peter Humenick, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday May 5, 2010. Gen was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on July 27, 1914 to the late Frank and Leonora (Lemanski) Nerkowski and has been a life long area resident. She was a retired Production Control Supervisor for Fermont Industries and had previously worked for Remington Arms, Singer Mfg Co. and Norden's.She was a member of the Mother's and Daughter's Club, and Seniors of St. John's Church. Grammy, as everyone affectionately knew her, will be remembered most for her infinite wisdom, her warm welcoming smile and her deep respect for education. She was a lifelong learner! On this Mother's Day we remember her with great affection and gratitude for the sacrifices she made for both her siblings and her daughters. She was a mother for 81 of her 95 years. She raised her siblings after the death of her mother at a young age and her daughters after being widowed at the age of 29. Survivors include her devoted daughters Eleanor Adzima and her husband Richard of Stratford and Bernadette Ganio and her husband Peter of Danbury; her grandchildren Matthew Adzima and his wife Mary Ellen, Peter Adzima and his wife Shannon, Christina Adzima all of Stratford and Peter Ganio and his wife Denise of West Palm Beach, FL; her 7 cherished great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Thomas, Kathryn, Alexander, Elizabeth, Joseph and Daniel Adzima; a sister Jane Vitko of Apollo Beach, FL: a sister-in-law Irene Nerkowski of Seymour and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Leon, Edward and Frank Nerkowski and a sister Jessie Fusco. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Monday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist,364 Mill Hill Ave, Bridgeport with the V. Rev. David Cochran officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 2 - 5 pm in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Panachida will be at 4:30 pm. Those desiring may make donations to the St. John's Sr R Club Scholarship Fund, St. John's Church, Stratford VNA or VITAS through the funeral home.
