Frank X. Povondra, 60, of Shelton, husband of Nancy Balgach Povondra , died Dec. 26, 2010 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Son of the late Frank and Helen Povondra, he was born October 5, 1950 in Bridgeport and was raised in Stratford. A graduate of St Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN he was a financial system manager at General Electric World Headquarters in Fairfield, Ct. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged. Mr. Povondra has been a Friend of Bill W. for over 20 years and helped to establish several local meetings and groups. He was an active leader in the Matt Talbot Group 10 and assisted with the group's spiritual retreats. He volunteered with the United Way and logged over 500 hours as a volunteer at Bridgeport Hospital. He was an avid golfer, boater and fisherman. Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter Katherine Povondra of Denver, CO, his son Kevin Povondra of Seymour; a sister, Rita Galla of South Palm Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Laureen Povondra McAuliffe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 29th at 11:30 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church Huntington. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
