Obituary

Frank G. Mencel, age 88, of Stratford, the beloved husband of Nettie Drachowsky Mencel, passed away on Monday July 25, 2011 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Mencel, the proprietor of Mencel Roofing Company, was born in Bridgeport to the late Andrew and Katherine (Kotrady) Mencel and has been a life long area resident. He was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army 852nd Engineering Battalion. Frank was a member of VFW Post #145-Bridgeport, Roofers Union Local #12, the O.L.G. Seniors Club, and the Baldwin Center. Frank was more than a just a "roofer", he was a man that could do everything, and was a craftsman at everything he did. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 64 years Nettie, include his devoted sons Richard G. Mencel and his wife Joan of Shelton, and David C. Mencel and his wife Donna of Stratford, 4 grandchildren Denise Dumas and her husband Mark, Mark Mencel and his wife Claire, David Mencel and his wife Julie and Michael Mencel, a great-granddaughter Lilly Dumas, a brother Joseph Mencel, and a sister Margaret Grega both of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his brothers John, Andrew, Michael, George and William, and sisters Mary Viglione and Ann Lattanzi. Special thanks to the nursing staff and techs on Luscomb 10 at Bridgeport Hospital. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday July 27th at 10:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
