Obituary

Frank J. Kaputa Sr., age 94, of Stratford, beloved husband of Carole Jankura Kaputa, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, in his home with his family by his side. Frank was born in Bridgeport on September 6, 1930, to the late John and Mary (Homa) Kaputa and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Harding High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving both overseas in Korea and stateside at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

Frank was a retired fireman for the City of Bridgeport and was an active and devoted member of Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport. Over the years, he served the church in many roles, including vice president of the church council.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling together and were lifelong campers, spending summers at Hammonasset Beach State Park every year since the early 1980s—most recently in 2024.

Frank was a masterful Pinochle player—his favorite pastime—and he played frequently, competitively, and with great skill. Among friends and family, it was no secret that Frank was "the one to beat."

Frank was a proud member of the VFW Post 9460–Stratford, Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters, and the Bridgeport Historical Society. He and Carole were also active in several community groups, including the Sikorsky Travel Club, the Stratford Baldwin Senior Center, the Derby Senior Center, and the Seymour Senior Center.

Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife of 59 years, include his devoted son, Frank J. Kaputa Jr. and his wife Angela of Glastonbury; cherished grandchildren, Ziv and Zoe; brother, Robert Kaputa; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his son Nicholas, brothers Albert, John, William, Andrew, and Richard, and sisters Elsie and Mae.

Frank remained healthy, active, and independent well into his 90s. When asked about the secret to his longevity, he never hesitated: "meat and potatoes".  And, true to his word, that was pretty much all he ate.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 29 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, with a Panikhida service at 5:00 p.m. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., meeting directly at Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church, 1510 East Main Street, Bridgeport, CT.
