Frances Mary Sommers, age 86, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Santino, died on Saturday, August 6, 2005 in Bridgeport Hospital. Fran was a resident of Stratford for 52 years. She worked as a secretary at Universal Thread Grinding Company in Fairfield for 24 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Stratford where she taught Sunday School. She was active in the Creative Writing Group at the Baldwin Senior Center and had articles published in the New York Times. She was a dedicated volunteer helping to care for disabled children at the Kennedy Rehabilitation Center in Bridgeport.for many years. She was pre-deceased by her first husband Frank E. Stone in 1954 and her second husband Charles E. Sommers in 1971. Fran is survived by her sons Frank E. Stone and his wife Eunju of Farmington Hills, MI, James J. Stone and his wife Karen of Stratford; a step-son Charles Sommers Jr and his wife Barbara of Milford and a step-daughter Diane Lucke and her husband Arthur also of Milford; two brothers Salvatore Santino and his wife Mary of Wilmington, N.C. and Anthony Santino and his wife Rose also of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister Irene Trott and her husband Dominick of Beverly Hills, FL. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Sister Mary Francine of the Sisters of St Joseph in Hartford. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Fran was a warm and caring person who will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford and at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Grace Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will be in the Chapel Mausoleum in St Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 P.M. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Creative Writing Group at the Baldwin Center, Stratford.
