Frances Margaret Charney, age 78, passed away on August 16, 2016 in her home. Born in Bridgeport, CT. Frances was a resident of Lordship in Stratford CT. since 1992. She was the daughter of the late Frances A. Radvansky Charney and Joseph Frank Charney. Frances is survived by her brother, Robert J. Charney of St. Petersburg, Fl., and special friend, Ann Fariss. Cousins: Robert/Merilou Mannino, John/Emily Hajus, James/Andrea Hodska all of Stratford, Marianne Hajus/Paul Moore, of Vero Beach, Fl., and Barbara Hodska/David Ipacs of Shelton. Frances was a banker, and retired from The Wilton Bank (Bankwell) located in Wilton, CT after fourteen years, retiring as Executive Vice President. Fran was hired as Vice President Operations, to set up the new Bank, along with the President, which included raising the Capital, hiring the staff, and selecting the computer system. Fran was delighted to be able to use her diverse banking experience, with the Bank opening April 27, 1987. Prior to The Wilton Bank, Fran was Vice President at the Commerce Bank, Worcester, MA. For eight years. Active with the National Association of Bank Women – and the closest chapter in Boston – Fran was able to establish a Worcester Chapter of the Association. While at Commerce Fran applied for a New England regional scholarship sponsored by the NABW – with Commerce Bank's support, she was presented the scholarship in Washington DC. at it's annual banquet. She then, for the next three years, studied at Simmons College, Boston, MA, and was the class speaker at the graduation ceremony. Fran was also associated with Citytrust, Bridgeport, and Lafayette Bank, Bridgeport. Lafayette Bank (in particular Donald Forman) supported Fran to attend the Bank Administration Institute School of Banking, held each summer for three years at the University of Wisconsin, Madison WI. Fran majored in Controllership, and was the first female officer to attend the banking school from Lafayette Bank. Upon returning to Stratford, CT. in 1986 to join The Wilton Bank, Fran was an Instructor of American Institute of Banking (AIB) Fran was an avid golfer; Beginning at D.F.Wheeler's Black Course; a former member of SNEWGa – So.Ct. Women's Golf Association; Grassy Hill CC. Oronoque CC and Mill River CC. Her many memorable golf trips with the Lange Cup –BLUE team with competition against the Lange Cup – RED team were held in Scotland, Ireland, Minnesota, and Chicago. These trips also included attending the LPGA Solhiem Cup completion in which the United States competes against Europe's best female golfers every two years. Fran was an active parishioner Our Lady of Peace; Garden Club, Finance Committee. Fran was an Ostomate for 67 years due to Crohn's Disease, and in the past served as a volunteer visitor for the United Ostomy Association of America, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Murphy on Tuesday, August 23rd meeting directly at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Road Lordship at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
