Obituary

Frances Shifflett Blyth, age 92, of Bridgeport, died peacefully at CT Hospice on Friday August 10, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late William Arthur Blyth, the love of her life, for 63 years. Fran was born on April 22nd, 1920 in Harrisonburg, VA, daughter of Grover Shifflett and Bertha Smith Shifflett. She was the eldest of 9 siblings. Fran appreciated the simple things in life. She loved her garden, family gatherings, and walks with Bill around the neighborhood. She loved reading and UConn Women's Basketball. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved traveling back home to the Shenandoah Valley. Most of all, she loved being a wife and mother. A convert to Roman Catholicism, Fran was a devout parishioner at St Charles Borromeo for over 50 years, where she and Bill were lectors and active members of the St Charles Friendship Club. Most recently, she was a member of Our Lady of Grace parish in Stratford. Fran is survived by three devoted children: William F. Blyth and his wife Cindy, of Monroe; Kathleen Raynor and her husband Michael, of Stratford; and Timothy P. Blyth and his wife, Lisa, of Naugatuck,; two cherished granddaughters, Ashley Blyth, of Monroe; and Madison Blyth of Naugatuck, a brother, Claude Shifflett of Bridgeport; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Staron and Betty Shoemaker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; two infant sons and an infant daughter; four brothers, Mervil, Jack, Nelson, and Robert Shifflett and; three sisters; Charlotte Kilpatrick, Beverly Shifflett, and Dolores Shifflett; as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law with whom she shared a deep loving bond. Our deepest thanks to the staff at Connecticut Hospice for the loving care provided to our mother. Thank you to Crystal and Donna, mom's home caregivers. Thank you Dr. Walters and Dr. Mackintosh. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday at 9 am from the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 10 am in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm in the funeral home.
