Ethel Bene age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on December 18th at Bishop Wicke Health Center in Shelton, CT. A longtime resident of Stratford, CT Ethel was predeceased by her husband Bella "Joe" Bene. Born August 24th 1924 in Scranton Pennsylvania to Peter Hapak and Gustine Mihalik, Ethel was well loved and cared for by all who knew her.  A retiree of Norden Systems and tireless member of the Norden Systems Retiree Club, she was always present at the picnics and other gatherings.  A member of the Stratford Senior Center and St. Mark's Church she was very active in her community. Ethel was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Peter and George her sister Clare Steller her daughters Carol "Bunny" Matty and Janice Borysiewicz and her grandson William Matty. She is survived by her sister Irene Hart of San Diego, CA, her grandsons Michael Matty of Longmeadow, MA, Jonathan Borysiewicz of Sandwich, MA, Thomas Borysiewicz of Bethel, CT, her great grandchildren Emmeline, Siobhan, Oliver and Abigail, her great-great granddaughter Ainsley, surviving husbands of Bunny and Janice, Wilhelm Matty and Frank Borysiewicz and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ethel will be missed by her entire family and all the lives that she touched, she was a constant source of inspiration and was a kind and loving soul. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 9:15 am in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford and at 10:00 am in St Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
