Emmett Moseley Spillane Sr, age 82, of Stratford the beloved husband of 54 years to Kathleen Gerwien Spillane passed away on Friday, May 08, 2015 in his home. Born in Bridgeport to the late Daniel and Catherine (Moseley) Spillane he has been a long time Stratford resident. Emmett was a retired sports Editor for the CT Post/Telegram with over 40 years of service. Survivors in addition to his wife Kathleen include his beloved children: Emmett M. Spillane Jr. and his wife Patti, Patty Gallagher and her husband Sean, Maureen Rooney and her husband Jim, Sean Spillane, Brian Spillane and his wife Patrice; his cherished grandchildren, Anthony and Michael Skowronski, Brendan Gallagher, Jack and Erin Spillane, and Liam and Declan Spillane; a great granddaughter Audrey Skowronksi; Special cousins Gail Luckart and Peter Devitt; several nieces and nephews. Emmett was very active in local sports. He was proud of his many years of coaching for the Senior City Baseball League and the New England Basketball League. He was the recipient of many awards for his sports reporting and was recognized by the Stratford and Bridgeport Old Timers Associations. He was the writer of the weekly column "Emmett Spillane's Sports Whirl" for many years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 9:00AM DIRECTLY at St. James Church 2070 Main Street Stratford. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8PM in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
