Amelia F. Sporinsky Pitoniak, age 96 of Stratford, the widow of Michael J. Pitoniak passed away on Monday January 3, 2011in St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull. Mrs. Pitoniak, a retired teacher for St. Mark School in Stratford was born in Jessup, Pennsylvania to the late Andrew and Mary (Hriczko) Sporinsky and has been a long time area resident. She was a graduate of Mansfield State Teachers College in Pennsylvania, and prior to St. Mark's she taught at St. Ambrose School, and was a member of the Slovak Ladies Guild and the Baldwin Center. Amelia, was very proud of her ethnic heritage, and loved teaching and children in general. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, and was also very proud of her late brother Rev. Andrew Sporinsky. Survivors include her beloved children Michael Pitoniak and his wife Suzanne of MA, Frank Pitoniak and his wife Jeannie of CA, Ruth Czerbinski and her husband Joseph of Suffield, and Mary Fagan and her partner Gary of Brookfield, 9 cherished grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, and a niece. In addition to her husband and parents she was pre-deceased by a daughter Barbara Sachs and sons-in-law Edward Sachs and Kirk Fagan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 10th at 12 noon in St. Mark Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery Stratford. At the family's request calling hours have been omitted. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
