IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eleanor M.
Szkudlarek
February 16, 1933 – March 10, 2024
Eleanor M. Szkudlarek, age 91, of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Bronislaus (Barney) Szkudlarek, passed away on March 10, 2024.
Eleanor was born in Bridgeport on February 16, 1933, to the late John and Margaret (Grikosky) Strajk. She was a graduate of St. John's Commercial High School and enjoyed a long career as a bookkeeper before retiring as Treasurer of the U.S. Baird Corporation Credit Union.
Eleanor was loved for her good listening ear, pragmatism, and timeless sense of style. She was a firm believer that almost any problem could be worked through with a long vent session in the kitchen and a few Milano cookies. When it came to her loved ones, Eleanor never forgot a birthday, a favorite snack, a reminder to bring a jacket, or a stern look for misbehavior. She enjoyed many afternoons with her daughters, granddaughters and great-grandsons; watching Turner Classic Movies; going to New York theatre with her friends; trips to the mall; and chocolate-covered raisins. She especially loved spending time with her late husband, Barney, and enjoyed countless grocery store runs, cruises, and casino trips with him during their 67 year-long marriage.
Eleanor is survived by her two daughters, Laura Loso and Lynn Wilcoxson (Alan), all of Shelton; her five granddaughters, Elizabeth, Allison, Sarah, Katherine, and Megan; six great-grandsons, Ryan, Nathan, Oliver, TJ, Theodore, and Louis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was also predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Dembinsky, Irene Kulka, and Jean Panico. Her family would also like to express their eternal gratitude for the love and care provided by Mozaic Senior Services, especially the Bennett House staff. Eleanor leaves behind a remarkable legacy of strength, kindness, and impeccable taste, and will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege to know her during her long and full life.
Friends and family may visit on Friday, March 15th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home located at 50 Paradise Green Place in Stratford, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church in Huntington. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
In lieu of flowers, Eleanor's family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).
