Obituary

Eleanor M.  Roscoe, age 101, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.   She was the beloved wife of the late Wesley H.  Roscoe.   Born in Bridgeport, CT on June 25, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary Potanovich.   Eleanor worked at several places including Remington Arms and Schick Razor Company before retiring from Read's Department store.  Eleanor was an avid ballroom dancer and loved dancing with her late husband.  Her and her husband also found great enjoyment traveling around the world. She never turned down the opportunity to play a good game of Rummy with her granddaughters.   Most of all, Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.   She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.  In addition to her husband, Wesley, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Eleanore Matera, brother Edward Potanovich, and great granddaughter, Ashley Matera.   She is survived by her sons, Wesley A. (Laura) Roscoe, and Gary (Deborah) Roscoe, and son-in-law, Patrick Matera; ten grandchildren, Greg (Darlene) Matera, Laura Matera and Debbie Matera, who both cared for her and lovingly were called 'her girls', Valerie (Larry) Meyer, Robin Roscoe, Wesley R. (Pam) Roscoe, Adam (Shaye) Roscoe, David (Susan) Roscoe, Michael (Jordan) Roscoe, and Lisa Roscoe; Eight great grandchildren, Lindsay Matera, Brandi Robinson-Meyer, Austin Goolsby, Justin Goolsby, Amanda Roscoe, Wesley A. Roscoe, Brynn Roscoe and Declan Roscoe; and one great-great granddaughter,  Ella Jae Torrez.  The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and aides on the fourth floor at Lord Chamberlain.  Their care and compassion towards Eleanor during her eight and a half years as a resident was greatly appreciated.  During this time, the staff became like a second family.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 2nd at 10:00 A. M. at St. Stephen Church, 6948 Main Street, Trumbull.  Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.  Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 1st from 4 to 8 P.
