Eleanor Jean Turchik Pekata, age 84, of Stratford, beloved wife of Matthew S. Pekata, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on December 18, 1930 to the late Michael and Mary Turchik, she has been a life long area resident, and a graduate of Harding High School. Eleanor met the love of her life while dancing at the Ritz Ball Room, and they would have celebrated sixty-two years of marriage on May 30th. She was a life long member of the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, and was a former employee of Bradlee's at the Dock for many years. She enjoyed watching golf, and spending time with her family for holidays. In addition to her beloved husband Matt, survivors include her daughters, Gail Maida (Joseph J. Maida) and Merri Middlemass (Mark Middlemass), her grandchildren whom she adored, Joseph M. Maida and his wife Sue, Andrew M. Maida, Amanda L. Middlemass, and Samantha A. Middlemass, and her great-granddaughter, Maya Grace Maida, her twin sister, Lillian Mierzejewski, brother Frank Turchik, Godchildren, Jim Mierzejewski, and Judy Berard, nephews, Frank Turchik Jr, and Robert Turchik, her special cousin, Caren Silhavey who endlessly gave Eleanor her time and love. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her niece Linda Turchik. Funeral services will take place on Monday, May 18th, 2015 at 9:15AM in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10AM in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist 364 Mill Hill Ave, Bridgeport. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet her family on Sunday from 2-5PM. Panachida will be at 3:00PM. The family request in lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Eleanor's memory to St. John's Church.
