Obituary

Eleanor Peters Morse, age 70, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on March 10, 2014 with her family at her bedside. Ellie Morse was born in New York City, and lived her early life at the family's summer home in Great Barrington, MA. She later moved to Fairfield, CT, where Ellie attended Dwight School, and later, the Thomas School in Rowayton, CT. She graduated in 1961 from Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA, and in 1963, from Bennett College in Millbrook, NY. After college, she attended Katherine Gibbs School in New York City, and worked as a researcher for the prestigious patent law firm of Pennie, Edmonds, Morton, Taylor & Adams. In 1966, Ellie married Murray H. Morse, Jr. of Westport, CT. In 1968, they moved to Ohio and spent three years in Perrysburg. During that time, Ellie attended Toledo University, and was a member of the Toledo Junior League and Belmont Country Club. Upon returning to Fairfield in 1971, Ellie devoted many years of volunteer fundraising leadership and charitable work throughout the county. Beneficiaries of her talent and dedication included: The Junior League of Bridgeport, the Connecticut Audubon Society (Executive Committee and Assistant Treasurer), Fairfield Country Day School (Annual Consignment Sale Chairman), Near and Far Aid, Greens Farms Academy, Norwalk Hospital, Trinity Church in Southport, and St. Timothy's Church in Fairfield, among others. Ellie was a natural athlete who excelled in field hockey, tennis, and paddle tennis. She was an active long-term family member of The Country Club of Fairfield, The Fairfield County Hunt Club (Board of Governors), and The Fairfield Beach Club. She also enjoyed being a member of the Sasqua Garden Club and, until most recently, served as president of Women-In-Finance, a high-performing Fairfield investment club. Ellie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Skip Morse of Fairfield; a brother, John C. Peters of Colorado Springs, CO; three sons, Murray H. Morse III of Fairfield, Stephen L. Morse and wife Jenifer of Milford, and Christopher P. Morse and wife Rawleigh of Weston; and six grandchildren: Alexander, Hayden, Isabelle, Chloe, Rowan and Griffin. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 4670 Congress Street, Fairfield, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellie's memory may be made to the Fairfield Country Day School William B. Ely Scholarship Fund, 2970 Bronson Road, Fairfield, CT, 06824. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the arrangements.
