- Edward A. Gilchrest, Sr. age 77 of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Sunday November 6, 2005 in Bridgeport Hospital, after suffering from recent strokes he had been in a coma. Mr. Gilchrest, a WW # II Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, was born in Cheshire and moved to Stratford in 1950. He was the former proprietor of the Tip Top Grocery Stores and Fenwick Food Center early in his career and later managed various chain store operations. He loved planes and flying and for a time during the 1950's he piloted his own Cessna. In more recent years, he enjoyed his lunches, golf, bowling and bocce with his friends from the senior center. He is survived by his beloved children: Edward Gilchrest Jr. of Oxford, Sharon O'Neill of Pound Ridge, NY, Sally Unrau of Morden, Manitoba and Linda Begen of Westford, Mass 5 grandchildren, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 54 years Livia Valletta Gilchrest. Friends may call on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
