Dorothy Eva Franklin, age 98, of Carmel, New York, the beloved widow of Robert A. Franklin, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 in Putnam Ridge Nursing Home in Brewster, New York. She was born on May 2, 1925 in Stratford to the late John and Helen (Kochiss) Onofrey and was a resident of Stratford through high school and thereafter resided in the New York metropolitan area. Dorothy was in the first graduating class in Occupational Therapy at Columbia University. She was a retired teacher with the Bedford Central School District. Survivors include her devoted children: Terence Franklin, Theodore Franklin and his wife Joan, and Dana Sullivan and her husband James, as well as three grandchildren: Ryan Sullivan, Robert Franklin and his wife Erin, and Elizabeth Horan and her husband Mike, four great-granddaughters: Virginia, Eloise and Brynn Franklin and Avery Horan, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by two sisters: Mary Ann Onofrey and Helen Furie and a brother-in-law, Sid Furie.
Family was of utmost importance to Dorothy. For nearly 50 years Dot and her husband enjoyed weekly bridge games with her sister, Helen and brother-in-law, Sid. She loved camping with her children and grandchildren every summer, as well as traveling with her grandchildren throughout the US, China and Europe. Besides her love of traveling and eating out, she had many interests such as square dancing, tap dancing, card games, bowling, and trips to the casino to play Bingo. She also became an active member of her local Rotary Club in her 90's.
Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, March 27th from 10:30 -11:30 am in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery Stratford.
