Mrs. Dorothy C. (Coffin) Brelsford, age 88 of Crosby Commons, Shelton (formerly of Stratford) entered into eternal life on May 31, 2007 on the Feast of the Visitation in Bridgeport Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Herbert W. Brelsford for 62 years. Born on July 17, 1918 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Mary Fitzgerald Coffin. After graduation from Warren Harding High School and prior to her marriage in 1945 Mrs. Brelsford was employed by Harvey Hubbell Inc. in Bridgeport where her family lived on Carroll Ave. and were devoted members of Blessed Sacrament Church, living right along side the schoolyard.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt who dedicated her life to the noble vocation of homemaker. Ma would say her life was her kids and "If I didn't have my kids and my grandchildren, I wouldn't have anything." She had a very deep faith in God which she has passed on to her family. She spent much of her spare time in prayer for her family and friends and enjoyed reading books and articles on religion including her children's college books. She especially enjoyed time spent in the St. James Adoration Chapel. Besides being a completely devoted wife and mother she is best remembered by all as a great peacemaker which was a reflection of Jesus living in her. She was a parishioner of St. James R.C. Church in Stratford and a member of the St. James Ladies Guild. In addition to her husband Mrs. Brelsford is survived by three sons and their wives; Richard and Cathy of Stratford, Herbert and Joan of Milford, Donald and Deborah of Stratford. She is also survived by eight cherished grandchildren: Susan of Mattapoisett, MA, Richard and his wife Rachel of New Canaan and Lori of Stratford. Also Kimberly and Stephanie of Milford and Michael, Daniel and Alyssa of Stratford. In addition, several brother and sister in laws, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Marion Coffin, Alice Kramer and brother, Gerald Coffin. The Brelsford family would like to express sincere thanks to the entire ICU staff at Bridgeport hospital for the wonderful compassionate and expert care Ma received there as well as the entire staff at Crosby Commons and Apex Health Services, especially Gloria Thomas for making Ma comfortable at her home away from home.
