Obituary

Dorothy Taylor Bassick-Scott, 90, of Stratford, and formerly of Fairfield, died on November 30, 2017, after a brief illness.  She was the widow of Donald Scott, formerly of Lowell, Massachusetts, with whom she celebrated 6 years of marriage. She was also the widow of Judge Edgar Webb Bassick III, of Fairfield, with whom she shared her life for 35 years. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on Dec. 6, 1926, her parents were Charles and Monique Lebrun Taylor of Lowell.   She began volunteering for her community in the 1960's, when she joined the Barnum Festival. She participated in many festival activities for many years.   Closest to her heart was serving as chairperson for the festival's Road Show, which brought good cheer to the shut-ins of the greater Fairfield County community. In the 1970's Dorothy also joined the ladies auxiliary of Bridgeport Hospital where she also volunteered countless hours. She served as auxiliary president from 1989-1991. She was instrumental in raising important funding for hospital programs. For many years she attended the Bridgeport Hospital nursing graduation ceremonies to give out awards, and always made a point of letting the new graduates know how important they were going to be to the communities they would be entering as nurses. She most recently served as a member of the Bridgeport Hospital President's Council. She is survived by her children, Leslie Ann Bosse, of West Haven, Paul Charles Johnson and his wife Jennifer of Stratford, Jay Louise Purcell and her husband John, of Prospect, Maine, and Stephen Grant Johnson and his wife Tracey of Stratford; and 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and her brother Donald Taylor and his wife Jane of Dracut Massachusetts; and also, she was predeceased by her sister, Elsie Taylor of Fairfield, her brother James Taylor of Lowell, Ma., and her sister, Shirley Taylor of Dracut, Ma. Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister will be much missed. She leaves us an example of a life lived with meaningful work and kindness to so many. Services will be private, and have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home-Stratford. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation 267 Grant St Bridgeport, CT 06610.
