IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy A.
Barwick
May 25, 1933 – October 20, 2021
Dorothy A. Barwick, 88, devoted wife and mother, continued her soul's journey passing peacefully from this life into the next at home on the beautiful Autumn day of October 20, 2021. A loving and devoted wife and mother, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 48 years, Stanley Barwick. Both graduates of Harding High School, Dorothy and Stanley met at the United Illuminating Company and the rest, as they say, is history. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles Hudak and Anna Adzima Hudak, as well as her younger brothers Charles "Sonny" Hudak and Nicholas "Nick" Hudak. As residents of Bridgeport for the early portion of their lives, Dorothy and Stanley moved to Fairfield in 1960 – before Fairfield was the "in" place to be. One of the very first residents in the neighborhood, they spent many happy years in the house raising two children and entertaining family and friends. Said gatherings featured Dottie's amazing food, both sweet and savory, where she made sure everyone had plenty to take home with them. This is the home where she lived the rest of her life until the time of her passing. A woman of faith, Dottie spent her early years at St. John's Russian Orthodox Church. Upon marrying Stan, they became members of Park Street Congregational Church in Bridgeport, then Unity Hill Congregational Church in Trumbull. At both Park Street and Unity Hill, Dot was a member of the Women's Fellowship, serving as President for a time. Known for her tenacious nature, Dorothy was a survivor of polio when she was young and then cancer when she was older. She always made sure to impart a portion of this to her children, her family, her friends, and her caregivers. "You have to speak up for yourself! If you don't, no one is going to do that for you!" She was also highly creative – something her children inherited from her in different ways. Dorothy was well-known for her exquisite crocheted afghan quilts, knitted scarves, handmade roses made of ribbon, flower arrangements, a variety of other unique crafts, baking an array of cookie varieties, cooking full-course meals – and, of course, the incomparable Russian specialties like pagachi, paska, and nut and poppyseed rolls. The amount of Christmas cookies and breads baked and gifted was astounding. Both Dot and husband Stan encouraged their children to pursue their dreams, with no limits on what they could be or achieve. Both Syndee and Scott pursued careers in the entertainment business in different areas: Syndee in the music and publishing (comics) business and Scott in the television and magazine business. Dorothy is survived by her youngest, son Scott, of Fairfield and her oldest, daughter Syndee, of Edison, NJ. She is also survived by her niece and nephew Dee Hudak and Chuck Hudak, both of Georgia, her sister-in-law Myriam Hudak; her nieces Lori Hudak of Oxford, Lisa Zarcone of Florida, her sister-in-law Patricia Hudak; her cousins-like-sisters Joyce Riccitelli and husband Joe of Branford and Janice Blevins and her husband Ron of North Branford, as well as a myriad of other family and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge her caregiver of two years, Marie Jean Michel, as well as her nurse of two years Leah Garton – who added a wonderful dimension to her later years. Please come and celebrate Dorothy's amazing life with family and friends on Monday, October 25 from 4pm-7pm in the Adzima Funeral Home at 50 Paradise Green Pl. Stratford. Funeral services will be held the next day on Tuesday, October 26 at 10 am in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Everyone in attendance must follow the COVID 19 guidelines, wear a mask and practice social distancing.
