Doris Lorraine (Newell) Tkacs of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Robert J. Tkacs, left her mortal life behind in the early hours of Sunday, January 30, 2011 at her residence with her youngest son near her side. Born in Bridgeport in 1939, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Christine & Carleton Brenton Newell, Senior. Doris graduated from Harding High School in 1957 and moved to Trumbull with her family in 1965. She recently retired from her longtime employment with the Stop & Shop Corporation. Doris enjoyed going on cruises with her husband, dancing, bunka embroidery, and spending time with friends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Mayflower Society, and was active in town committees and the Trumbull Senior Center. Doris passed from our experience after battling diabetes and cancer. Even so, she was at all times an indefatigable optimist, remembered for her positive attitude, her sense of humor, her love of life, friends & family, and her pride in her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her two loving sons, Kenneth (and his wife Deborah) of North Haven, and David of Stratford; her grandchildren Alexander and Jason; her sisters Beverly Newell, Karen Pavlinski, and Eva Newell, and her brothers Carl and Robert Newell; her several nieces and nephews, and by all who knew her. Funeral services will take place on Saturday February 5th at 8:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 9 a.m. in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Trumbull for a Requiem Funeral Service. Internment will be in St. John's Cemetery 500 Moose Hill Road Monroe. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7PM. Doris' family extends their heartfelt thanks to her good friends at the Trumbull Senior Center and to her doctors, nurses and caregivers.
