IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald S.
Halapin Jr.
August 28, 1957 – December 12, 2025
Donald S. Halapin Jr., age 68, of Sandy Hook and West Haven — affectionately known as “Donny” or “Don,” passed away after a brief illness on December 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Donny was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Donald and Sonia (Nash) Halapin Sr. and was a longtime area resident. He was a proud graduate of Trumbull High School Class of 1975, and cherished his lifelong friendships, recently celebrating his 50th Reunion this past October.
His professional career was inspired by all things mechanical, outdoors, and a good adventure. He began his career installing cable television in Miami, Florida, in the late 1970s. After returning home, he spent over 30 years as Vice President of the family business, Rader Industries, Inc., where he was recognized for his innovative designs, including surgical steel staples. Don’s passion for the outdoors led him to eventually establish his own landscaping business, Fairfield County Turf. With pride and joy, he maintained properties with his crew as if they were all his own.
An avid sports fan, he carried the pride of being a die-hard New York Yankee, Knicks, Giants and UConn fan, cheering them on with the same passion he brought to everything in his life. You could be guaranteed he taped nearly every game and then played it back with the aid of “his clicker”! You dare not reach out to share details of any game as he may not have viewed it yet!
Above all else, Donny reminded us to appreciate the simple things of life that mean so much, like gazing upon beautiful landscapes, the sea and sunsets, the freedom of riding the open roads in a vintage car with his son by his side, the joy of celebrating Christmas, assisting those in need of support or just simply sharing a wonderful meal or his special find of fruits or vegetables.
Donny treasured being a loving companion, father and friend. His immediate circle was small - but the center of his world. His legacy lives on in the example of strong will and connections to overcome difficulties in life, in the stories he shared, and the unconditional love he gave so generously. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In addition to his cherished son, Dustin Halapin, he is survived by his loving “childhood sweetheart” and companion, Julie Ann Bellico Savino, his brothers, Brian (Kimberly) Halapin and David Halapin, sister, Lora Calo, nieces, nephews, and many cherished lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18th from 10:00–11:30 a.m. at Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, with prayers at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford. To make an online condolence, please visit www.adzimafuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Donny, or to a cause that reflects his love for the outdoors, animals, or helping others.
