Obituary

Daniel Theodore Dusenberry, Sr, 92, passed away on July 30, 2007, in Shelton Connecticut. He was born in Bethel, Connecticut on November 2, 1914, the youngest child of Carrie and Jacob Dusenberry. Dan married Annie Andera in 1941 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and together they had three children: Phyllis Ann, Frances Elaine, and Daniel Theodore Jr. He loved his family throughout their lives. He supported educational pursuits, offered advice, provided manual labor on house projects, financed projects, and sent hams for the holidays. He and Annie made frequent visits to their children and their families. In his extended family Dan gave in marriage the hand of his nieces Carrie (Waterhouse) Licciardi, Dora Lynch and Alice Mazzi (deceased). A grandnephew, Daniel Licciardi, and his son Danny were named for him. Gardening, woodworking and volunteering were integral to his life. He was a fan of filming family and friends from the time 8 mm black and white film was available. His collection of home movies is archived as the Daniel T. Dusenberry, Sr. Collection at the Northeast Historic Films archives in Bucksport, Maine. He was employed at the Remington Rand, Singer Sewing Co. and Hawley Hardware. While living in Monroe, he served for many years as the Tax Collector for the Town. Dan and Annie sold their home in Monroe in 1986 and moved to Asbury Ridge. They have been members of the Asbury Ridge/United Methodist Homes community for over twenty years. During this time Dan added cooking, kite flying, playing and teaching bridge, showing films, and writing a book on his political views (Back to Basics, Vantage Press, New York, 2004) to his list of pastimes. Dan is survived by his wife, Annie Frances; daughters Phyllis Mobraaten and her husband Larry, and Frances Porter and her husband David; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Dusenberry; grand children Michelle Porter, and Edward Mobraaaten and his wife Suszanne Bernat; great grandchildren Lily Shayne Mobraaten and Daniel Thomas Mobraaten; his much-loved niece Carrie Licciardi and her husband, Chido. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gilbert Dusenberry, sisters Delia (Dusenberry) Waterhouse and Elmira (Dusenberry) Kaye, and son Daniel T. Dusenberry, Jr. Dan had some dear friends over the years including Billy Stocek, Michele Barry, MD, and Sondra Kosenko. He particularly enjoyed the time he spent with the staff in the United Methodist Homes workshop. A heartfelt "thank you" from the family to the entire staff at the United Methodist Homes on Long Hill Avenue and Janet Petrillo. Dan enjoyed knowing you. Sincere appreciation is extended to the caregivers from the Connecticut Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice out of Shelton. Donations in memory of Daniel T. Dusenberry Sr. may be made to United Methodists Homes, 580 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484 for the Gardening Fund. Cards and notes may be sent to Annie Dusenberry, Bishop Wicke Health Center, 584 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 6, 2:30 PM at Wicke Health Care Center. "God bless our happy home!"
