Claudia Sczyrek, age 83 of Bridgeport the widow of Anthony Panko and Clem Sczyrek, passed away in Lord Chamberlain Heath Care Center after a long illness. Born November 27, 1927 in Sworsville, Pa to the late Alex and Anna Laytar and passed away the evening of August 11, 2011. Claudia worked at Acme United for many years and volunteered at Bridgeport Hospital, were she had over 8,600 hours logged as a volunteer and continued to volunteer during her chemo and radiation. Claudia was very active with her church, cooking, being on the board of directors, and being a good friend to all that knew her. Survivors include 1 son Anthony Panko and his wife Patricia of Bridgeport who were with her when she passed away, 2 daughters. Loveann Curran and her husband Mark of Seymour CT, Susan Beniash and her husband John of South Carolina. Claudia was known to many people, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Baba". Also survived by 6 grandchildren: Nicole Panko, Jennifer Ludwig, Larissa Boyles, Shannon McGinnis, Alexis Beniash, John R. Beniash; 7 great-grandchildren Allyssa Mahan, Drew Ludwig, Ben Ludwig, Sam Ludwig, Christian Boyles, Kiera Boyles and Ryliegh Boyles. Claudia was predeceased 2 sisters Maria Laytar and Anna Bugel and 1 brother Joseph Laytar. Tony and Pat would like to say Thank You to the 2nd floor staff at Lord Chamberlain and to Vitas Hospice for all their support and loving care they gave Claudia. A Panachida will be celebrated in Presentation of Christ in the Temple Russian Orthodox Church in Stratford on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 12:30pm. Her family will greet friends from 1-4 pm Funeral Services will take place on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 8:00am in Church with a Divine Liturgy and at 10 am a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will take place in Mountain Grove Cemetery Bridgeport. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
