IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cheryl Datzenko
Mills
December 1, 1956 – March 25, 2020
Cheryl 'Mimi' (Datzenko) Mills, age 63, of Colchester. Our family is devastated to announce the untimely passing of Cheryl, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 in Hartford Hospital. Cheryl, the long-time E.R. Registrar at Backus Hospital in Norwich, was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Mildred (Sepelak) Datzenko and Peter Datzenko. Survivors include her daughter Kristin Mills (husband J.D.), grandchildren: Joey (13), Khloe (10), and Kaylee (2). Cheryl has two loving sisters Darise Datzenko and Juliane Datzenko (James). Cheryl was a graduate of Trumbull High School class of 1974 and attended the University of Hartford class of 1978. Cheryl was a selfless person. Her number one priority were her daughter and grandchildren. Every single day was surrounded by and planned around her grandchildren. Cheryl 'Mimi' lived to spoil her grandchildren! She was always planning for the next holiday to give birthday presents and treats. Mimi was well known to have a bag or trunk full of gifts. There was always a weekly (even daily) small gift just because it was fun to put smiles on little faces. Cheryl loved to bake and for all who had the pleasure of knowing her could not wait until their next birthday or holiday because she would make a special one-of-a-kind birthday cake or special treat for you. Cheryl enjoyed attending her grandchildren's baseball games, basketball games, gymnastic and tumbling meets, playground trips, and swimming pools trips. She was always supporting, encouraging, and routing for her grandbabies. We don't know when, though Cheryl purchased a book for her grandchildren and family and stored it in her home. A book found left behind was titled 'Wherever You Are my love will find you' by Nancy Tillman and we knew it was for them. Cheryl sang children's songs, taught the abc's & 1-2-3's, how to stand up for yourself, and even how to laugh at yourself… but, had the foresight and strength of selflessness to try and teach the hardest lesson of all, the circle of life and how the power of love can reside in you even when 'Mimi' is no longer with us. This book was read together as a family and has touched us more than we can explain. Mimi… we appreciate all that you have done for us, all you have taught us, and more importantly, the love you have given us! To Joey's #1 fan and supporter, Khloe's #1 bestie and craft partner, Kaylee's #1 singer and teacher, Kristin's heart, soul, and fortitude, and to her sisters Juliane and Darise's best friend! We miss you and will forever remember you in our hearts !!! A special acknowledgement to all who knew Cheryl and was patient and kind to her. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 13th at 1:30pm and will take place in the Polish Club located at 395 South Main Street, Colchester, CT 06415. Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Please check back for updates.
