Charles J. Skurja Sr. age 87 of Stratford passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2009 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Mr. Skurja, a WW# II Veteran of the U.S. Navy was born in Proctor, Vermont to the late John and Mary (Kalabisko) Skurja and has been a long time area resident. He was a retired Control Operator for Connecticut Light and Power Company, and was an avid duckpin bowler, golfer and fisherman and was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Men's Society. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rosemarie Pitoniak Skurja, his devoted sons Charles (Regina) of Wallingford, and Gerard (Stephanie) of Milford, his cherished grandchildren David, Gerard, Emily, Scott, and Mitchell, a sister Helen Malsky of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ann Lysik and Mary Chruszczyk and his brothers John Skurjo, George Skurja and Frank Skurja. The Skurja family would like to thank the staff of Connecticut Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their dedicated care and compassion. Funeral services will take place on Monday January 4, at 8:45 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford.
