Obituary

Charles R. Sekelsky, age 75, of Stratford, passed away on April 20, 2022 in Bridgeport Hospital.

Charlie was born in Bridgeport on February 2, 1947 to the late Charles and Anna (Pistey) Sekelsky, and he had been a lifelong area resident. While in grammar school, St. John Nepomucene, Charlie taught his parents how to speak English. After graduating from Bullard Technical School, he enlisted as an Airman 1 st class for the U.S. Air Force. He worked at AVCO, Moore Special Tool, Ross & Roberts, UPS (for 1 day) before beginning his 40-year career as a Bridgeport Police Officer. He worked in the Patrol Division, the "old" Communications Center, the "old" Booking Area and ended his career in the Traffic Division as the Abandoned Car Officer in T-9. Charlie holds the record for giving the most breaks on tickets and truly enjoyed every day with the police force. He would always say that no two days were the same on the job. Charlie was compassionate, enjoyed getting a suntan in the summer and loved dinners with family and friends. After retirement, he took great pride in taking care of his grandchildren after school. You would regularly see him at football and basketball games cheering on Will and Caroline. He adored all of his dogs that predeceased him: Coco, Rusty, Rocky, Schaeffer and Molly. He was a collector; he relished in giving advice on where to get the best gas price and what grocery store had the best sale that week. Charlie was a 4 th degree Knight of Columbus. He also enjoyed all of the meetings with the Bridgeport Police Union Local 1159.

Survivors include his former wife Linda, who was a wonderful mother and a true friend, and his two beloved daughters, Kimberly Sekelsky, and Marie Donahue along with her husband Paul and cherished grandchildren, Will and Caroline. Charlie is also survived by his beloved brother, John Sekelsky and his partner Lori Jordan, nephew Stephen Sekelsky and his wife, Cory and their children, cousins, Robert and Marie Sadowski and their children, goddaughter Stephanie Schock and Steve Sadowski. In addition to his parents, Charlie was pre-deceased by his brother, Stephen Sekelsky and his wife Donna.
