Obituary

Charles G. "Gordy" Perry, age 75 passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, November 24, 2010. He was born in Bridgeport on August 5, 1935 to the late Francis and Mary (Pjura) Perry. A lifelong resident of Stratford, he was known to all as "Gordy". He graduated Stratford High School in 1953, where he played football and ran track, setting state records in the 100-yard dash and for the most touchdowns scored in a single season. After high school he attended the Storm King Preparatory School in New York State before serving in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. A lifelong passion for sports, he coached the Holy Name Cardinals and played Semi-Pro Football for the Connecticut Rockets in the 1960's and was a High School and College Football official for 20 years. He worked at Sikorsky Aircraft as a purchasing manager where he and his team were awarded employees of the year in 1983. He also helped start the Sikorsky Ski Club and retired as a Purchasing Manager after 45 great years. A devoted father and family man, he loved skiing in Vermont with his family and grandchildren, boating on Long Island Sound and camping with friends and their families. He enjoyed traveling in Europe and visiting historical sites and National Parks throughout the United States. He had a great love for laughter and life and will forever be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years; Marilyn Cristini Perry, daughter and son-in-law Karen & Randy Zigmont of Oxford, daughter Denise Morrissey of West Haven, sons and daughters-in law Charles and Jennie Perry of Newtown, Bruce and Heidi Perry of Falmouth Maine; grandchildren, Jonathan Zigmont, Lorin Zigmont Borghini and her husband Paul, Timothy and Thomas Morrissey, Charles and Prescott Perry, Cooper and Gunnar Perry, great grandchild Giulian Borghini, two brothers, Ted Perry of Lugoff South Carolina, Bill Perry of Leavenworth Kansas. Also an Aunt Ann Pjura Tomek and Uncle Adam Pjura and many cousins and nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its gratitude for the excellent care he received by all of the staff on the 8th floor intensive care unit at ST. Vincent's Hospital and to his many friends for their devotion to his care and well being. A memorial service celebrating Gordy's life will be held on Saturday December 11TH at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Grace Church, Second Hill Lane, Stratford. Interment will immediately follow in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington Center. Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford has been entrusted with the arrangements.
