IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles W.
Murphy
November 15, 1936 – January 18, 2021
Charles William Murphy, "Chuck," 84, of Milford, CT, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021. Chuck, also affectionately known as "Murph," was born on November 15, 1936, in Chicago, IL, to Thelma Lacourciere and Irish immigrant Frank Murphy. Chuck was raised in Skokie, the 4 th of 5 children. He attended St. George High School in Evanston, graduating in 1954. He then joined the United States Navy Reserves, serving from 1954 to 1961, including his station on the U.S.S. Corry which took him abroad. He earned a B.S. from Eastern Illinois University in 1963 and then moved to Manhattan Beach, CA, commencing a career in sales and marketing for technology companies, which led him to relocate to Connecticut. He raised two daughters in Wilton, before moving to Wallingford with his second wife Galina Winogradow-Murphy. He and Galina very successfully ran the business Galina's Enterprises together for the last 20 years. They moved to Milford in 2015 to fulfill dreams of retiring together by the beach.
Chuck is survived by his wife Galina Winogradow-Murphy, two daughters, Cristin Wallace and Regan Murphy; two grandchildren, Caitlin and Sean Wallace; his sisters, Thelma Finney and Sister Pat Murphy, RSM; his brother, Mike Murphy; as well as two step-sons, Victor and Jamie Boemmels, and two step-grandchildren, Willem and Tatum Boemmels. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brother, Brother Denis (Frank) Murphy, FSC.
Chuck had the spirit and charisma of a true Irishman, and was often described as "happy go-lucky," "larger than life," and "the life of the party." He loved his family, was a devoted husband and father, and took joy in watching his grandkids grow up. He remained very close with his four siblings despite geographic distance. He was admired for being the primary parent raising two teenage girls and for being such a supportive father. He was a devout Catholic. He enjoyed the theater and served on the board of directors for the Shubert Theatre in New Haven for many years. He could often be found cooking and entertaining, especially for a traditional St. Patrick's Day feast. He was also an avid reader, with special interests in history and maps. He derived great joy from caring for his beloved cats, Pushkin and Caesar, traveling, listening to classical and oldies music, watching the boats on the water, sitting by moonlit firepits on the deck, and dancing with his loving wife Galina, with whom he shared a special, unconditional "agape" love for 25 wonderful years.
A private graveside service for family will take place on January 20, 2021 at King's Highway Cemetery in Milford, and the arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home-Stratford. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
Donations in his name can be made to The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services of New Haven, CT, or the Shubert Theatre of New Haven, CT, both of which Chuck and Galina personally and professionally supported.
