Dr. Catherine Chanda Anderson, age 92, of Stratford, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 15 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born in Stratford, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Julia Chanda. In 1955, Dr. Anderson received a degree in Nursing from the University of Bridgeport and then completed her masters in 1964 and doctorate in 1977, both in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, at Catholic University in Washington, DC. While living in Washington, DC she worked for the US Department of Health and Human Services, and rose to serve as the Director of Nursing at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital. She received numerous awards for her work in psychiatric geriatric research. In addition to her outstanding career, Dr. Anderson enjoyed an enriching and cultured life, splitting her time between Washington, DC, Gloucester Point, Virginia and later, Prague, Czech Republic. Dr. Anderson moved back to Connecticut after her retirement from civil service. She will be remembered for her love of entertaining, music, art, nature, coastal living, and her love of good friends and family. Dr. Anderson is survived by her brother Daniel Chanda of Stratford, two sisters Frances Roberts of Los Alamitos, CA, and Margaret Gorlo of Stratford, and several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Peter Boyhen, who was killed while on active duty in World War II, her second husband Edward J Anderson, sisters Pauline Hudak, Regina Raslavsky, Ann Millett, Irene Kollar, and Marie Ernst, and brothers John, Stephen, William, and Joseph Chanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 23 ^rd at 11 am in St. Mark's Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Connecticut Audubon Society or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Adzima Funeral Home in Stratford has been entrusted with the arrangements.
