- Carolyn L. "Casey" Rodia, beloved wife of 56 years of Ralph J. Rodia, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at The Griffin Hospital with her loving family surrounding her. Carolyn was born July 6, 1932 in Bridgeport to the late William and Leah Rauscher Casey. She graduated from Warren Harding High School, class of 1950, and entered the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, but put her career on hold to raise her family. Following the birth of her seventh child, Carolyn returned to nursing in the LPN program at Bullard Havens Technical School and graduated Valedictorian and President of the class of 1969. After working several years at Saint Vincent's Medical Center, Carolyn owned and operated the former Card'n Party Shop in Huntington Center for the next 10 years. Missing her nursing career, Carolyn returned and discovered her true calling in geriatric care. While working at Saint Joseph's Manor in Trumbull and Marion Heights in Monroe, Carolyn and 3 co-workers decided to open their own adult day care center, Generation Senior Day Care in Seymour, where she was President and Director until her retirement in 2001. She will forever be remembered for her generosity, compassion and devotion to her family, friends and clients. Besides her husband, Carolyn is survived by her 8 devoted children: Linda Dobrydney of Milford, Thomas Rodia and his wife Karen of Stratford, Susan Melita and her husband John of Milford, Diane Carfo and her husband Marc of Shelton, Eileen Rotunno and her husband Jim of Seymour, John Rodia of Shelton, Patti Cavallaro and her husband Keith of Seymour, Lorri Redding and her husband Bill of Naugatuck, 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Carolyn also leaves her sister Sharon Iannotti and husband Jerry of Milford, several sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and her life long friends, Chester & Mary Bielecki of Stratford. She was predeceased by her sister Janet Michalek. Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 23 at 9:15am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, CT and at 10:00am at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Mountain Meadows Cemetery in Seymour. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-7pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the American Cancer Society, the National Shrine of Saint Jude, Saint Mark Church Stratford, or The Griffin Hospital.
