Carol "Ponia" Roosevelt, age 74, of Shelton, formerly of Trumbull, entered peacefully into eternal life on 12/27/2021.
Carol was the daughter of the late Julia and Frank Poniatowski. She was a 1968 graduate of the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing, and in 1982 earned her BS Degree in Healthcare Administration from Iona College. She was a dedicated Registered Nurse who worked at Norwalk Hospital for over 30 years and concluded her career at Southwest CT Agency on Aging (SWCAA)as a Certified Case Manager.
For many years it was Carol's honor and greatest pleasure to accompany veterans on trips to Washington DC as part of "American Warrior Honor Flights." She was passionate about participating in these trips and supporting veterans. She was an active member of the Port 5 Naval Club in Bridgeport, participating in the Women's Auxiliary and the Color Guard.
She leaves behind a sister, Frances Anziano, along with Michael Anziano Jr., and a brother Martin Poniatowski and his wife Lori. "Cioci Big", as she was affectionately known, will also be missed by her beloved nieces and nephews Victoria (Anziano) Loudermilk and her husband Cannon and daughter Julia; Michael Anziano III; Brian Anziano; Amanda (Poniatowski) Fluet and her husband Nicholas and children Caleb and Walker, Frank Poniatowski and his wife Callie and daughter Everly, and Amy (Poniatowski) Corkery and her husband Nicholas and children Ryan, Lana, and Jake (JJ.) Carol had many cousins and their spouses with whom she grew up, and all held a special place in her heart.
Carol was grateful for, and dearly loved, the many friends with whom she was close and whom supported her during her illness, especially Barbara Northcott, Kathy Reese, and Linda Delorenzo. She valued the many yearly Vermont trips spent with her traveling companions "The Campers."
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 10:00am, meeting directly at St. Mark R.C. Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Masks and social distancing are required. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours; rather, a memorial celebration in her honor will be held at a later date. Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, those so inclined are welcome to make a donation in her memory to American Warrior through their website at www.americanwarrior.org/donation-programs.
