Obituary

Carlyne A. Labrecque, age 89, of Orange, beloved wife of the late Victor Labrecque, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025.

Carlyne was born in New Haven on March 2, 1936, to the late William and Lillian (Fast) Gitlitz and had been a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy Laurelton Hall, class of 1954 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbia University (Barnard College) class of 1958 and MA in Education from Fairfield University and a sixth-year degree in Administration and Supervision from Southern Connecticut State University. Carlyne retired from Amity Regional High School.

Carlyne had a love for the arts and helping others. She volunteered to help people in need from all walks of life. She volunteered for a number of organizations, including guiding eyes for the blind and the Milford fine arts counsel. In addition to being a popular and respected teacher of French and Spanish at both Amity Junior and Amity Senior High schools, Carlyne taught for the Amity adult education program specializing in English as a second language.

Carlyne’s artistic and creative mind drove her to post retirement hobbies that included jewelry making (“Carlyne’s Crystals”) and photography of the Milford shoreline. One could often find Carlyne enjoying the Milford harbor or Fort Trumbull where she would reflect and write. She published her first children’s book in her early eighties. Carlyne’s love of animals was only second to her love for people. Her kindness, care for others and commitment to giving of herself were several of her strongest characteristics. Carlyne positively impacted too many lives to count. She was loved by many and will be missed.

Survivors include her devoted children, Peter Ronai and his wife Margot and James Ronai and his wife Susan all of Milford, and Catherine Piterski and her husband Kevin of Hamden, 5 cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Brian and Lauren Ronai and Hayden and Reed Piterski.

Funeral services are private and have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford.
