Obituary

Bonnie Lee passed away in her home surrounded by family on September 11, 2024, at the age of 86.

She was a longtime area resident and the former co-owner of Whistle Stop Bookshop in Stratford. Bonnie was born in 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to Winfield and Ida Sauer.

She was married in March 1957 to Harold Lee, who worked for TWA and lived in North Kansas City, Missouri with their daughter Pam. Flying "standby" on free employee tickets, the family traveled all over the world. She especially loved spontaneous trips to surprising places. Following her daughter and grandchildren, she and Harold moved to Connecticut in 1991, where they lived for 25 years on Walnut Beach. They spent their free time relaxing and visiting friends and family on the beach.

She was known to many for her years working everyday at Whistle Stop Bookshop, across the street from the train station in Stratford. She was a voracious reader of mystery novels. After the passing of her husband Harold, she moved in with family in Stratford in 2016. She was often seen walking around Stratford on her way to play mahjong at the Baldwin Center or volunteer at the Sterling House food pantry.

Bonnie was a dedicated grandparent and great grandparent, who was always ready with a gift for children. She worked diligently on needlepoint projects to give to family and friends, and to her great grandchildren yet to be born. She loved cocktails and babies, gathering people together for themed parties, and watching the New York Yankees.

She is predeceased by her husband Harold, sister Darlene and nephew Raymond. She is survived by her daughter Pam, her son-in-law Steve, grandchildren Calvin (Sarah), Madelyn (Joshua), and Eric (Yomalis), and five great grandchildren, her sister Jody Knighton of Platte City Missouri (Bill) and nieces and nephews.

A public service will be held at Stratford United Methodist Church on Wednesday September 18th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the food pantry at Sterling House Community Center in Stratford, CT.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford.
