Betty Alice Carey, 68, of Derby passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023, with her loving husband and daughters by her side. Born in Mariana, Florida, Betty moved to Connecticut as a child and was a long-time resident of Stratford. She was a graduate of Stratford High School and worked for many years at Bic Corporation in Milford, CT before retiring in 2018. After retirement, Betty pursued her love of baking, and obtained a culinary certificate from Lincoln Technical Institute.

Betty's first passion was her family, and nothing made her happier than spending time together, whether it was vacationing in one of their favorite places, Hershey, PA, or sitting around the table for a homecooked meal. She adored being a grandmother, and spoiling her grandsons every chance she could.

Second only to her family was her love of baking and crocheting. Betty loved to use her gifts to bless others, generously giving baked goods and homemade blankets to those around her.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, James Carey; her children Shanon Carey and Jennifer (Donald) Szwaba; her mother Maxine McGehee; her mother-in-law Mary Carey; her siblings Carolyn (Daniel) Savitsky, Robert McGehee, Patricia Georgette, Charles McGee; her in laws Joan (Robert) Goncalves, Tony Carbone; her grandsons Aidan Cruz, Crew Szwaba and Van Szwaba and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Carbone.

A service celebrating Betty's life will be held on Saturday, April 29 ^th at 11:00am at Black Rock Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike Fairfield, CT 06825. Friends and family are welcome to greet the family at the church beginning at 10:00am, prior to the service. A reception will be held at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Closer to Free Fund, Smilow Cancer Hospital, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508.
