Bertha M. Betso, age 60, of Milford, passed away in Bridgeport Hospital on Friday, April 9, 2021.
Bertha was born on July 4, 1960 in Santa Clara, Cuba to the late Isidro and Wanda (Camacho) Otero and had been a longtime area resident. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caregiver whose selfless ways touched the hearts of many over the course of her lifetime. Over the last several years, Bertha spent her time at home, where she focused on caring for her family. Prior to that she had a daycare for several years where she enjoyed the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many children with her loving and nurturing ways.
Bertha has been survived by her husband Gus Betso as well as her beloved daughters, Trina-Marie Kanuch and her husband Bob, Ashleigh Melchionno and her husband Scott, and Madelynn Betso, along with her four cherished grandchildren, Isabel, Olivia and Mackenzie Kanuch, and Jaxon Betso. Siblings include her brothers, Isidro Otero and Jose Otero and his wife Doreen, sisters, Raisa Williamson, and Wanda Lopez and her husband Francisco, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bertha was pre-deceased by her beloved son, Gus Betso II, and sister, Maria Kei. Due to the extenuating circumstances of his passing during the height of the pandemic the family had postponed services for Gus II and he will now be laid to rest with his mother. A Mass of Christian Burial for Bertha and her son, Gus II will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 27 th at 10:00 am meeting directly at St. Ann's Church at 501 Naugatuck Avenue in Milford. Inurnment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Monroe. Everyone in attendance must follow the current COVID-19 guidelines, wear a mask and practice social distancing.
The Adzima Funeral Home in Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Bertha's name to The National Kidney Foundation.
