Obituary

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we mourn the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara J. Watt.  She passed away peacefully on May 30, 2024, with her loving husband, Edward, at her side.

Born on July 5, 1938, in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Emma and Thomas Hannah.  Along with her husband Edward, Barbara is survived by her son David Watt and his friend Lois Vitalis as well as her daughter, Donna Mulligan and her husband, Joe.  She also leaves behind her grandsons, Patrick, and his wife Caty, Ryan, Mike, and Eddie, and her Great-Grandson, Callan, all of whom brought absolute joy to her life. In addition, Barbara was survived by her sister Anne and her husband Norman, along with nieces, Norma, Kim, and Candy and nephew, David.

Prior to her retirement, Barbara worked as a clerk typist at Avco Lycoming and as a Visa Representative at Sikorsky Credit Union as well as State National Bank.

Barbara and Ed met in 1957 while working together at Woolworths in Bridgeport. They married in 1959, moved to Stratford, and had 64 amazing years together. Many summers were spent traveling locally in their trailer with their children and with friends.  Several trips were made to Walt Disney World as they truly enjoyed the "Happiest Place on Earth".

Her biggest joy in life was taking care of her family.  She spent many days at the baseball field, visiting classrooms, running the PTA and enjoying time with her children when they were young.  Once her grandchildren were born, she took on and cherished the role of "Grandma".  From gently rocking them as infants, enjoying the annual Memorial Day Parade and having them for overnight visits when they were young, to cheering them on in their many youth, high school and college games, she adored every minute of time with them.  No one was a more devoted Cadets, Indians, Colonial, Ducks or Cardinals fan than she was.

Barbara was a gift to us all.  She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Our hearts, though heavy now, will forever be full having had her as a part of our lives.
