Major Anthony F. Tom Sr., age 87 of Stratford passed away on Saturday August 25, 2007 in Bridgeport Hospital. Maj. Tom was born in Dickson City, PA to the late Peter and Bertha Tom on November 20, 1919. He entered the U.S. Army on May 18, 1944 and completed his basic infantry training at Ft. Mc McClellan, AL. He joined the 100th Inf. Div., Co E 397th Inf. Regt in France and joined them in combat all through Bitche, France and into Germany until he was wounded in Heilbronn, Germany. After leaving the hospital in France he was transferred to Co. B 141st Regt. Of the 36th Div. After the end of the hostilities in Europe, he was transferred to the 3rd Div. HQ Co. of the 7th Regt. He was discharged and returned to the states where he perused a career in law enforcement with the Bridgeport Police Dept. retiring as a sergeant in 1984. Maj. Tom also perused a military career at the same time he became a police officer he joined the Army Reserve. He was sent to Officer Candidate School where he obtained a commission as a second lieutenant and did tours in military intelligence at the Pentagon until his retirement from the reserves in 1978 with the rank of Major. His decorations include the ETO Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. He was past-president of the 100th Infantry Div. Assoc., Co-E 397th Inf. Reg., past Post Commander of VFW Law Enforcement Post # 10273, past – vice-president of the Bridgeport Police Benevolent Assoc., Sick Benefit Assoc., and Patrolman's Assoc. Survivors include his beloved wife Margherite Petrillo Tom, his devoted children Anthony Tom Jr. and his wife Joanne of Orange and Patricia Lynne Tom of Milford, his twin grandchildren Anthony F. Tom III and Madison Dyanne Tom, his brother-in-law Joseph Petrillo and several beloved nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services and interment with full military honors in St. Michael's Cemetery will be private.
