Obituary

Anne Sproch Sedlak, age 96, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Milford Hospital. Born February 3, 1914 in Portage, PA, Mrs. Sedlak emigrated with her parents and siblings to Šambron, Slovakia, where she lived until she returned to the United States as a young woman. She married her beloved husband, the late Stephen Sedlak, in Cleveland, OH, and relocated to Bridgeport, CT, where they both raised a family and resided for many years. Mrs. Sedlak was a longtime member and communicant of the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport, where she was a member of the Mother's and Daughter's Club, and the St. John's Seniors. She will be remembered by her family and many friends as a kind, caring, and compassionate woman with a warm smile and wonderful sense of humor; as a woman strong in her faith; and as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her so dearly. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sedlak was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Helen Sedlak Butchko and her Son-in-Law, Alexander J. Butchko, and by her siblings, John Sproch, Peter Sproch, and Helen Babey. Survivors left to cherish her memory include her children: James Sedlak, of Bedminster, NJ; Sally Rappoport, of Milford, CT; her grandchildren: John A. Butchko and wife Jessica, of Trumbull; Steven Butchko and wife Janet, of Stratford; her sister Mary Pencak and family of Easton and Bethlehem, PA, and her niece, Nancy Loughlin and husband Robert of Trumbull. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 9:00 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:00 am in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, Mill Hill Ave, Bridgeport with a requiem Funeral Service officiated by the Very Reverend Protopresbyter David Cochran. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Calling hours will take place on Monday from 5-8 pm; Panachida will be at 6:30 pm.
