Anne Ptak, age 96, died peacefully Saturday January 17, 2009 at Maefair Heath Center in Trumbull. Born on March in 1912 in Lucky, Czechoslovakia, Anne emigrated to Creighton, Pennsylvania as a young girl with her parents, Michael and Anna Sopka Mihok. During the depression, she worked very hard in a Pittsburgh factory, earning the title of 'fastest cigar roller.' She spent much of her life with her beloved husband and daughter, Raymond and Shirley, in Stratford, where she worked in sales at the Bridgeport department store, Gimbels. Upon retirement, Anne moved to Barefoot Bay, Florida where she spent her golden years enjoying poker, swimming and bicycling. Her very good friends, including Ann Raimer, Rae Cieniewicz and many more, fondly remember Anne's humor, kindness and strength. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Sopka and half-sister Helen. She is survived by her loving family: daughter Shirley Macejko of Stratford, and grandchildren Sheila Runkis and husband Walt of Jackson, MS, Stephen Macejko and wife Kris of Sandy Hook, CT, Sandra Starr and husband Martin of Eugene, OR, and Stephanie Macejko and partner Tony Fleischmann of Kinnelon, NJ. She also has two great-grandchildren, Alex and Stevie. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday January 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford. Followed by inurnment at St. Michael's in Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Our Lady of Grace; Children's Medical Center c/o Alex Voccola, Stratford Police Department, Stratford; or to your favorite charity of choice. Anne's family extends grateful thanks to the caring and competent staff at Maefair and CT VNA Home Healthcare and Hospice.
