Annamae Dragone, age 91, of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Peter Dragone, passed away on March 15, 2021 in her home.
Annamae was born in Bridgeport on December 12, 1929 to the late George and Anna (Harrison) Borodach and had been a lifelong area resident. She was graduate of Harding High School. Upon her graduation, she worked at Avco for approximately 10 years, during which time she streamlined their operation. She retired from the City of Bridgeport Board of Education, where she worked as Chief Accountant for Federal and State Programs for 37 years. In 1997 Annamae received a Proclamation from Mayor Joseph P. Ganim where September 12 th is recognized as "Annamae Dragone Day". She was highly regarded in her field and received a citation from then State of Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell and from former Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi upon her retirement. Annamae was loved at the board of education for helping all educators obtain state and federal funding and for making the education experience for students better. No one has filled the void since her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport and also worked for the church as a financial officer. She was the former President of the Bridgeport Symphany Youth Orchestra and the Bridgeport Symphony Women's Guild.
Survivors include her devoted sons, Manny Dragone and his wife Tina of Stratford, and George Dragone of Orange, 2 grandchildren, Alexander and Shane, great-grandchildren, Dominic and Isabella, sisters, Helen Halkovic of Florida, Margaret Miterko and her husband Peter of Trumbull, and Dorothy Daymonde of Shelton, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Annamae was pre-deceased by her brothers, George, and Henry.
A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, March 19 th at 11 a.m. meeting directly at St. John's Orthodox Church 364 Mill Hill Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Everyone in attendance must follow COVID 19 guidelines and wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in memory of Annamae to St. John's Church.
The Adzima Funeral Home-Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
