Obituary

Anna Maco Mihalko, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2014 in Bridgeport Hospital at the age of 96. A life long Connecticut resident, born and raised in Bridgeport, and presently resided in Stratford for over twenty years. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Maco (Michaels) and Martha Jancura Maco of Czechoslovakia. Predeceased by her late husband of forty-four years Stephen Mihalko and her son, Roger Mihalko; brothers, Stephen Maco (Michaels), John Maco (Michaels), Frank Maco; sisters, Helen Zawadski, and Mary Ondek, Survived by her beloved daughter and devoted care giver Frances Ann Mihalko of Stratford, four grandchildren, Thomas and his wife Deanne of Henderson, NV, Roger Jr, of Sugar Creek, MO, Troy and Kimberly of Kansas City, MO, daughter-in-law, Tola Rose Mihalko of Kansas City, MO, 9 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Helen Kopchik and her husband John of Stratford, and several nieces and nephews. Anna was a member and one of the founding presidents of St. John's Church Seniors, Past Recording Secretary of the Mother's and Daughter's Club, the Ladies Kitchen Helpers, and was an avid bowler in her day, and was a former team captain of the St. John's Wednesday Night Bowling League, and was also a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol Wreath #39. Anna loved her family, friends and church. She enjoyed doing many crafts, and traveling with her late husband Stephen, and she always had a "smile" on her face that could light up a room, with an added pleasant personality to match. Her daughter Frances would like to thank all of the very special health professionals who assisted with Anna's care and well-being. Dr. Stephen Urciuoli, Medical Asst, Dudell, CAN/Companion Donta Gray, Stratford VNA, nurse Jill Petrie, Dept of Aging Staff, Bridgeport Hospital/ VITAS Hospice Staff, for the wonderful care given to Anna. A special thanks to neighbors the Vargas and Acosta families for their willingness to help and for their caring nature. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 14th at 9:15am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:00 in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist Mill Hill Avenue Bridgeport for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Panachida will be at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Anna's memory to; St. John's Church Endowment Fund, St. Nicholas Benevolent Fund, or to the Senior "R" Club Scholarship Fund.
