Anna Skumanich Kalinich, age 92, of Stratford, beloved wife of 69 years to George Kalinich, passed away on Tuesday February 14, 2012 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mrs. Kalinich, a retired cafeteria worker at Bunnell High School was born in Jessup, Pennsylvania to the late Stephen and Mary (Sechak) Skumanich and has been a long time area resident. She was a recreational golfer, and an avid bowler and was a member of the GCU and Senior Mixed Bowling Leagues. Anna created beautiful needlepoint, and was an extensive traveler, both in the US and abroad; but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, who can vouch that her Pirohi were the BEST. Her family would like to thank the SWCAA, Jewish Home for the Elderly, Griswold HHA, and their wonderful neighbors for their love and care. Survivors in addition to her husband George, include her children William Kalinich and his companion Susan, of Kansas, Eleanor Gilbertson of Shelton, and Alice Shingola and her husband John of Beacon Falls, 7 cherished grandchildren, Martin, Shawn, and Edward Bernas, Eric Gilbertson, Lisa Servidio, Tara and Lana Shingola, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by her daughter Marion Servidio, grandson Adrian, brothers John and Steve Skumanich, sisters Helen Stuchlak and Mary Demora. Funeral services will take place on Saturday February 18th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Nichols for a Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Panachida at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Anna's memory to St. John's Church.
