Obituary

Alexandra T. Dickenson (Sasha), age 90, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from complications of cardiac and kidney failure. Her daughter, Helena Dickenson Pyne and son-in-law Michael Pyne were by her side. Sasha was born on May 25, 1924 in Stamford, daughter of the late Victor and Helen (Yablonsky) Trehubenko. She was the devoted wife to the late Kenneth G. Dickenson, born in Warrington, England. A graduate of Stamford High School, Danbury State Teachers College (Western CT State University), and an alumni of Teachers College, Columbia University. Sasha was a home bound teacher of physically challenged students in Stamford. Upon her move to Trumbull, she became a mother, homemaker, and office manager for her husband's automotive business. She later was office manager for three Fairfield County auto dealerships. Before retiring, she was a librarian at the Fairchild Memorial Library in Trumbull. Sasha later resided in Stratford, Woodbury, and for the past four years at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. A gourmet cook, Sasha enjoyed chairing church suppers and religious and social events for the Nichols and Woodbury United Methodist Churches and the Nichols Improvement Association. She was responsible for bringing Christmas Eve luminarias to the Nichols community, beginning in the mid 1970's at the Nichols United Methodist Church, and then to the Nichols Improvement Association who sold kits to the community where thousands of luminarias have been a tradition for 40 years. The tradition spread to Woodbury and many other towns which she was very proud of. In recent years, Sasha rediscovered her passion for writing and sent many well written letters to the editor of the Republican American newspaper who were kind to publish all her submissions. Many thanks to all the professionals who lovingly cared for her during her recent years. Sasha was also predeceased by her brother, Victor Trehubenko Jr., and sisters Anastasia Berdy and Sophie Trehubenko. She is survived by her daughter, Helena and husband Michael Pyne of Norwood, MA, her niece Victoria (Trehubenko) Shantz and husband Tom Shantz of New Fairfield, granddaughter Emilie (Pyne) Knisley, her husband, Matthew Knisley, and two great grandchildren, Griffin and Isaac Knisley, of Groton, VT, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Adzima Funeral Home, Paradise Green in Stratford on Thursday, May 28, from 5 - 8pm. Additional calling time from 9:30 - 10am on Friday, May 29, which will then proceed to the interment at Nichols Farms Burial Ground, Cemetery Road, Trumbull. A memorial service will follow at the Woodbury United Methodist Church, on Church Street at 12 noon. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
