Albina "Barbara" Araujo of West Palm Beach Florida and Shelton Connecticut, the widow of William R Araujo, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Wellington Health Care Center. Born in Bridgeport to the late John and Anna (Kanaval) Knapick, she had resided in Bridgeport and Shelton prior to moving to Florida several years ago. She was the owner of Colonial Charm in Shelton for 15 years and was a travel agent for Phillips Travel and Ackley Travel. Barbara's mother was a Gold Star Mother and she was a Gold Star Daughter. She was a graduate of Warren Harding High School class of 1948 and remained active on the reunion committee and was a graduate of the Valley School of Hairdressing. She was active in many community groups in Shelton and a wonderful support to her husband, Bill, who served as a member of the Shelton Board of Aldermen. Barbara and Bill traveled the globe and made friends everywhere they went, mostly because Barbara talked to everyone. Accomplished ballroom dancers, Barbara and Bill danced through life and 53 years of loving marriage. Barbara was the ultimate classy lady; a very loving wife, mother and grandmother who met all of her life adversities with strength, humor, and dignity. She is our "Hero". Survivors include her beloved son Robert J Araujo and his wife Catherine of Shelton; a daughter-in-law Lisa Araujo of Glastonbury; 3 cherished granddaughters; Bridget, Mallory and Isabella Araujo; Brother-in-laws; Bob Araujo and his wife Judy of Seekonk, MA and Antonio Araujo and his wife Carol of Del Ray Beach, FL and many, many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bill, a son William J. Araujo, a sister Cecelia Masaitis, brothers Joseph and Frank Knapick and a brother-in-law James Araujo. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 9:15 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:00 am in St. John's Russian Orthodox Church, Mill Hill Ave, Bridgeport, for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 pm. Panachida will be at 6:45 pm.
