Obituary

Albert J. Masek Sr., age 95, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Alma Soderquist Masek, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Center, Trumbull, CT on November 12, 2017. Albert was born in Bridgeport on February 11, 1922 to the late John and Sophie (Zubricky) Masek and has been a life long area resident. He was a graduate of Warren Harding High School Class of 1940, upon graduation; he began to work at Remington Arms firearm factory in Bridgeport achieving the title of Forman, and worked there until enlisting in the United States Army. Albert's WWII service included the Philippine Islands, Northern Solomons, New Caledonia, and the Islands of Cebu, Negros, and Bohol. His distinguished service included the Battle of Bougainville as a member of the Americal Division, Compant L, 164th Infantry Division. It was from his actions during that event, that he was awarded the Bronze Star, among numerous other medals during military service in both the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and as an occupying force of Japan, attached to the 11 th Corps. He was a proud American and citizen of Bridgeport, and was always prideful of his service with the U.S. Army and community service of twenty-nine years of duty as a member of the Bridgeport Police Department. Albert was a member of the Stratford VFW, Police Sick and Injured Benefits Association and the Police Benevolent Association. Survivors include his sons, Albert J. Masek Jr and his wife Karen, and Raymond J. Masek and his wife Laurice, his loving grandchildren, Matthew Masek (Jeannine), Michael Masek (Meghan), Danielle Masek, Sherri Masek, Cindy Krantz, Seth Koos (Patrycja) and Michelle Koos, along with 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 16 th at 10:15 A.M. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in memory of Albert to St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
